On June 18, 2014, Public Health Solutions celebrated progress in public health at its benefit, To Your Health 2014. Colleagues, friends, and stakeholders joined us at Guastavino’s, a perfect backdrop for an evening of celebration, community, and commitment.
The work of the Coalition, a program of Public Health Solutions, was highlighted during the event. This video shows the tremendous strides made in tobacco control and prevention.
The evening’s honorees, CVS Caremark and FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg, are making important contributions toward the goal of creating a tobacco-free generation. In a bold move, CVS Caremark will become the the first national chain of pharmacies to stop the sale of all tobacco products in its more than 7,500 locations nationwide, demonstrating its commitment to public health and helping its customers live healthier lives. Under Dr. Hamburg’s leadership, the FDA is proposing to expand its regulatory authority over additional tobacco products, including the increasingly popular electronic cigarettes.
“Public health advocacy and policy work is so powerful because you really can have an impact on that broad set of issues and concerns that extend far beyond the walls of a doctor’s office,” said Dr. Hamburg. “To address problems on a population level and the ability to bring about systematic change is terribly rewarding to me and keeps me inspired to this day.”
Thank you to all who joined us on June 18th and to our partners and supporters who make our work possible throughout the year.
